Izod, a clothing shop on Main Street, will close this summer and could be replaced by a new store called the USA Team Shop.
The USA Team Shop is the brainchild of brothers Gerard and Matt Nyman, who co-own the USA Hockey Store next door to Izod. Their new store would sell officially licensed Team USA sports-related clothing and accessories.
“It would be focused on the USA Team,” Gerard said. “It would have USA Lacrosse, skiing and snowboarding. We’ll have USA Lacrosse represented well, USA Soccer and a splattering of the other governing bodies, track and field, swimming.”
Gerard said they plan to open the shop by July 1.
“We will have to hit the ground running,” Gerard said.
The USA Hockey Store is the first of its kind in the country, opening in June 2011. The brothers own the company Red Line Hockey, which has exclusive rights to the USA Hockey products within the country. The store also sells NHL hockey clothes and memorabilia.
The parent company of Izod, PVH Corp., announced in January that it will close its Izod retail division. The company operates approximately 120 Izod stores, and only about 20 will stay open, with new names.
PVH Corp. is a large international apparel company that also owns brands like Calvin Klein and Tommy Hilfiger, among many other brands.
